The role of men in modern society has changed, and this presents men with the opportunity to explore their human potential in new and exciting ways.
Most fundamentally, a man is no longer the sole provider of financial or physical security. A woman can easily provide for herself and security can be hired for a small monthly fee. As much as this presents opportunities for women – they no longer have to feel trapped in unsatisfactory relationships, for example – it presents new possibilities for men.
For example, a man no longer needs to be tied to a single job or career for his whole life in order to make a living for his family. In a dual income relationship, a man can ask for and get support while he explores a new career path or starts his own business.
Many men feel the pull of destiny as they approach midlife; they decide it’s time to do what they always wanted, and no longer pursue the career that their parents mapped out for them. Some are brave enough to explore themselves and their life in this way, and more than a few fail in their endeavors. Sadly, instead of asking for help, many of these men withdraw, blame themselves, brand themselves as failures, and ultimately they become depressed and lose their way, or return to their old career, tail between their legs.
